This article provides information what to do in case an out of date warning message is displayed on an Android device after updating the client to version 7.0.5.

With the release of Sophos Mobile Control (SMC) 7.1 the support for version 5.0 or lower will be completely stopped. Warning messages will be displayed:
Warning: Your organization’s Sophos Mobile Control installation is out of date which means that device management will stop working soon. Please remind your IT team to upgrade the Sophos Mobile Control server. See https://sophos.com/kb/127034 for more information.
As soon as an Android device installs version 7.1 and is still connected to an SMC server running one of those version, the communication with the server will immediately stop working. Unenrolling or synchronizing the devices is no longer possible.
It is necessary to update the SMC server to version 5.1 or higher upfront the SMC 7.1 release to resolve this issue.
If an App Control profile is configured to restrict access to the Settings app and the Sophos Mobile Control app is updated before the server, a factory reset must be performed on the mobile device.
