Sophos Linux Central 10.1.0
This message appears following changes to Talpa that were introduced to address a page fault issue caused when copying the set env of a process from memory in the previous version of SAV Linux.
Prior to SAV Linux 9.13.1 Talpa always tried to copy the environment variables of a process from memory regardless of whether they were set. The purpose of copying the process env was to add detail when reporting threats. This action could cause system problems such as a page fault if the copy actions were attempted when the environment was not set. The change in Talpa in 9.13.1 was to avoid the copy operation if there was a risk of causing a system issue.
The above message is intended to notify if there is an attempt to copy the process environment from memory which then fails. However the message :
kernel: talpa: Can't copy environment for <sweep_or_other_daemon>[5388/17092] (107)!
is now also being reported even if a copy of the process environment is deliberately not attempted in order to avoid potential system issues.
This error logging issue will be fixed in the Q2 release of SAV for Linux which will begin release in June 2017.
