This article provides information on the use of the Sophos for Virtual Environments product alongside the VMware NSX suite of network and security products.
Applies to the following Sophos product(s) and version(s) Sophos For Virtual Environments 1.0.0 - VMware ESXi
Sophos for Virtual Environments addresses the same use case of off-board malware scanning as its predecessor, Sophos Antivirus for vShield. Unlike SAV for vShield, however, Sophos for Virtual Environments uses proprietary Sophos technology, and therefore does not use or require NSX Guest Introspection components or NSX Manager Appliance provided by VMware. This enables the Sophos for Virtual Environments solution to support multiple hypervisors.
Whilst Sophos for Virtual Environments cannot be NSX certified due to Sophos’ proprietary approach, the product should function gracefully on your VMware deployment, providing off-board malware scanning for VMs running on the ESXi hypervisor, including support for the latest vSphere version (vSphere 6.5).
Note: As with other Sophos Anti-virus products, Sophos for Virtual Environments should not be deployed alongside anti-virus scanning solutions from other vendors, including those that integrate with the VMware NSX technology. For further information please see KBA 13814.
