This knowledge base article answers the frequently asked questions on the registration of a new XG Firewall. The following questions are answered:

When you register, this creates the Base license for the device and start the warranty for a hardware appliance.
If your order is for TotalProtect or EnterpriseProtect, it also starts the FullGuard or EnterpriseGuard subscriptions.
You should use the same email address that was used to create your MySophos account or Sophos ID.
If you don’t have a MySophos account or Sophos ID, use an email address for a mailbox that is monitored so that you can activate the created account. Sophos ID - creating and using your account
Unless it is a Home use license, we strongly recommend that you use your company email address instead of a generic free email address such as Gmail or Hotmail.
The subscriptions running on an appliance are identified by the Serial Number.
When you contact Sophos Technical Support or Customer Care, you must quote your Serial Number.
Also, when you order a renewal of your subscription, you must quote the Serial Number for the subscriptions that you are renewing (Sophos UTM customers previously quoted the License ID). You can find the Serial Number on the Licensing screen of SF-OS.
If you are running a free trial, either a Hardware Evaluation or a Software/Virtual 30-day Trial, and you want to retain your existing hardware or Software/Virtual installation, you must quote the Serial Number on the order. This will ensure that you keep the existing hardware appliance or retain your existing Software/Virtual appliance configuration and the license is attached to it.
You can see the Serial Number displayed on the Licensing screen of SF-OS. Use this number when contacting Sophos Support, or when ordering a new subscription or renewal from the Reseller.
The Serial Number format varies and is based on the origin of the appliance running SF-OS:
The licensing system takes no more than 30 seconds to process the registration.
Once the registration has completed, you must perform a License Synchronization to pull a copy of the license from the licensing system to the appliance.
If you registered using the appliance screen, make sure to click the Initiate License Synchronization button on the Thank you page at the end of the wizard. This will wait for the registration process to complete before pulling a copy of the license.
If you registered the appliance on MySophos, click the Synchronize License button on SF-OS. Make sure to wait 30 seconds for the registration to complete first.
