To find a file that is hidden or is located in a hidden folder, temporarily set Finder to show all files. Browse to the folder required and then locate the file. Sophos recommends to set Finder back to the default settings of hiding all operating system files.

Note: Though there should be no problem running these commands it makes sense to save and close any open work or application that does not need running right now.
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -boolean true killall Finder
Finder will stop running and resume immediately. You will now see all files and folders in Finder. Previously hidden files/folders will appear dimmed in Finder. For example: To reverse the process in Terminal run this command and press enter: defaults delete com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles killall Finder
defaults delete com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles killall Finder
Finder will quit and immediately resume. You will see less folders and files listed in Finder and the hidden files filter has been restored.
