Sophos continues to support fixed versions in Sophos Enterprise Console (SEC) for Advanced license holders. This knowledge base article lists the dates for the end of support and retirement of Sophos Anti-Virus (SAV) fixed packages along with later versions and their retirement dates. For best protection, Sophos recommends that you use the Preview or Recommended versions.
The following sections are covered:
Applies to the following Sophos products and versions Sophos Endpoint Security and Control
Note: Talpa updates are provided for Linux versions with the Preview, Recommended and Previous releases. If Linux fixed packages and on-access were used, Sophos requires that its own Talpa binary packs are compiled.
*For Advanced licenses, Sophos will not resubscribe a fixed package to a newer version before the Fixed package support ends date has passed. Sophos removes the fixed package from the warehouse 7 days after activating the re-subscription. Re-subscriptions will be applied and packages will be removed at the next warehouse update after the stated date. Fewer fixed packages are available to Standard licenses.
Fixed Extended versions will be identified and made available for the start of January, May and September. These will be available for 9 months in total, providing a 5 month overlap with the next Fixed Extended version, and a 1 month overlap with the next Fixed Extended version after that.
If the subscription is not updated before support ends, this will automatically be subscribed to a newer Fixed Extended package.
Sophos Anti-Virus: version release dates and the table above provide more information on the availability of Fixed Extended versions.
Use these versions if you want to remain on a version that changes less frequently or if you need to roll out over a prolonged period.
Note: For the best protection, Sophos recommends to use the Preview or Recommended version. Sophos reserves the right to update subscriptions at short or no notice where major issues or vulnerabilities have been identified. We will endeavor to notify customers in advance but this may not always be possible due to the fast moving nature of security and protection technologies and the need to release updated protection as quickly as possible.
Please be aware that there are no fixed versions of Exploit Prevention. When a new version of Exploit Prevention is released, it will change across all endpoints it is installed on, regardless of the subscription in use (Preview, Recommended, Previous Recommended and all of the extended versions).
