Throttling the download speed ensures quality of service (QoS) on your network. Quality of service is the ability to provide different priority to different applications, users, or data flows, or to guarantee a certain level of performance to a data flow.
In Sophos UTM version 9.1 and later, you have ability to throttle the download speed for various services and the interfaces.
In some cases it is necessary to throttle the download speed for some or all services. You can also configure if one or more interfaces are affected by QoS rules. If you want to limit bandwidth for certain applications, download throttling is a good choice.
This article describes how to configure download throttling on the UTM to maintain QoS.
Known to apply to the following Sophos product(s) and version(s) Sophos UTM
Operating systems 9.1 or higher
First of all you've got to setup a new traffic selector. You can chose which 'Source', 'Service' and 'Destination' that should be affected by the download throttling.
Note: In the following example we have chosen 'any' in every case. In a live system this rule would not make that much sense.
After creating a Traffic Selector you can step forward creating a 'New Download Throttling Rule'. Here you can define what the download speed limit should be and which traffic selectors should be affected.
