User-defined messages created in the Enterprise Console are not displayed on Windows 8 endpoint computers. This is a result of Windows 8 functionality.
First seen in Enterprise Console
Operating systems Windows 8
Windows 8 introduces a new style of desktop messaging, known as a toast. This differs radically from the type of messaging used in earlier versions of Windows, which displayed messages in balloons.
Toast messages are displayed in a pop-up box at the top of the screen. In effect replacing the standard balloon message.
Due to the limitations on the amount of text it can contain, toasts cannot pick up and display the user-defined text that you may have created in Enterprise Console for messaging your end-users.
It is possible to prevent messages from Sophos software displaying as toasts by editing a registry key entry. If you turn off the display of toasts, balloons will be displayed in desktop mode. These will show the user-defined message. This does not apply to non-Sophos messages.
