Issue SafeGuard overlay icons (key symbols) are not shown in Windows Explorer.
Known to apply to the following Sophos product(s) and version(s) SafeGuard Data ExchangeSafeGuard Device EncryptionSafeGuard LAN Crypt Client for PCSafeGuard Cloud StorageSafeGuard File Encryption
There are 12 available overlay icon slots in Windows which can be used by 3rd party applications. If this number is exceeded, the overlay icons applied most recently are not shown. This is a limitation of the Windows operating system.
You can check and modify the overlay icon slots in the registry of the client. They can be seen in the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\ShellIconOverlayIdentifiers Here is an example of a computer that only has SafeGuard Enterprise installed, all overlay icons will be displayed correctly: Here is an example where the limit is exceeded by three, the last overlay icons will not be shown (in this case these are the icons required for the volume-based encryption status: SgnIconOvl, SgnIconOvl2, ...): If you want to have the SafeGuard icons displayed, you need to uninstall the other 3rd party applications (in this case TortoiseSVN) or rename the corresponding keys. Windows evaluates this list in alphabetic order so the icons you want to have shown must be within the first 12.
