[Sophos Advisory] Central Mac - Chrome tabs slow to open with message "chrome-search://local-ntp/local-ntp.html"

Overview

Chrome tabs are seeing a delay when a new tab is opened and the URL is entered before the tab page is finished loading

Message seen in tab - "chrome-search://local-ntp/local-ntp.html"

Applies to the following Sophos product(s) and version(s)

Sophos Central Mac Endpoints

Impact

This is affecting any Sophos Central Mac's

Has been seen on version 9.9.8 systems and version 10.0.0

Workaround

There are currently no workaround at this time

The Mac team has been working hard to provide the fix for this issue. We have identified the cause and have implemented a fix that we are currently testing. I'm happy to report that tests are looking positive and we hope to share another update with you soon.

When could a fix be provided? Our macOS users are complaining heavily about the Chrome performance issues on macOS, and the last thing I'd like to do is to uninstall Sophos software.

Hi Alvils, just out of curiousity - are they logged in Gsuite business/enterprise account? We have cases where Chrome is slow without Sophos (is logged in) and we have cases where Chrome is OKish with Sophos (not logged in business account).

I just had our IT department uninstall and everything is back to normal. Until there is a fix I will not have it installed again.

We are in the final stages of testing the correction for this issue, and it will be released in version 10.0.1. For further updates on this, please see KB https://support.sophos.com/support/s/article/KB-000040204 as it will be updated with the latest information.

Hi - I see that 10.0.1 is rolling out through Nov 10th, I've checked again and users on my domain are not receiving this update. Is there anything that I must do to update them? Is there a way I can see if the newest version is available to my organization yet?
