Add apk to Sophos Central Mobile

Hi Community!

I'd like to add this apk to our Sophos Central Mobile Control apps for android devices:

https://f-droid.org/en/packages/org.jitsi.meet/

I cannot find an option to add.

  • Hi

You can add the application in the apps list first using the android package option under the Apps-->Add App.

After that, you can create a task bundle and install the application on the devices. Please refer to this document for the information.

  • Hi Jasmin,

Sorry, used the wrong account for the thread. I read the document you sugested before.

    1. On the menu sidebar, under CONFIGURE, click Apps and then click the platform for which you want to add the app.
    > OK
    2. Click Add app and then select the required option:
    > I can't find the option Add app. Please take a look at the screenshot I attached (I deleted our app-list).

    Thank you for your assistance!
  • Hi

Thank you for giving me a hint that you are using Android Enterprise in your Sophos mobile control.

The above-suggested option is available with legacy device mode. For Android Enterprise, there are two ways to put the application in the google which is not available on the play store.

You can create a web-app for the application available on the internet to everyone or you can create a private app.

  • Hi Jasmin,

you're welcome, sorry I didn't mention that we are using Android Enterprise.

    1. Private-App
This is not possible, please see screenshot below:

I'm not sure, but I think that is because there is already an app present with the same package name (= the original Jitsi app).

    2. Web App
I managed to create one and installed it on my smartphone.

When I open the app it shows me the icon I added and after a short while I get the error: No connection to website possible
  • Hi

I'd like to know that the .apk which you are trying to upload to google play is different than this app?

Private app option is for the inhouse applications and web application depends whether they have kept the website external and hosting the data on it or not.

You may need to contact the vendor further for web app setting.

  • Hi Jasmin,

the differences between the "original" Google PlayStore app and the app I'm trying to upload are some privacy related things.
The app I'm trying to upload "is built and signed by F-Droid" and does not use the 3 trackers that are included in the original app (Google CrashLytics, Google Firebase Analytics, Amplitude).

I think the web-app way isn't possible, since I have a apk to publish. The right way would be to use the private-app option, but Google seems not to allow private apps with the same name of an "official" app...

  • Hi

It appears that Google checks the identifier used within the APK file as well as the name. Every app should have a unique identifier which you can also see when opening the website of the Google PlayStore of an app. When trying to upload the APK file the Google backend will check for this identifier. If that is already within your database uploading the APK will not work.
