I want to share something that I have learned over the years in running Sophos for Mac.
Every time I run a scan on the full disk I invariably get the message "Issues detected" at the end of the scan. If I then open the scan log I find that various files are flagged with "Corrupt file". After years of getting worried that I am having disk problems or something else, I have learned that "Corrupt file" is almost always a false positive indicator. By this I mean that the file is not actually corrupted.
The reason I am writing this post is that if you look up this error message on this forum you will find Sophos employees giving the advice that this message means that a file is actually corrupt. Never happened in my experience - although I am sure it could happen. If you want to see an example of this just download the Yosemite installer from the Mac App Store. After it is downloaded cancel the install. Then run Sophos on the download (it will be in the Applications folder). It will be marked as "Corrupt file", yet it works perfectly if you run it.
