My second Mac with Sierra backs up fine, but it does not have Sophos on it.

I have had to re-format an external Seagate Backup Plus drive that is set up for Time Machine due to getting a error message stating the Time Machine can't back up the Mac due to the backup disk being read only. The first time I ran backup after I formatted the disk it worked, but then I got the same error message stating the disk is read only.

What should I do?

I have a simillar problem. After upgrading to sierra, my Time Machine backup is not starting properly (no progress in preparing backup). What I figured out is, if I switch of the on-access scanner, time machine works fine. as soon as I switch on the on-access scanner the problem returns. So I can now decide to either do manual started backups from tome to time by switching of the on-access scanner or leave that scanner permanently disabled and have a security risk. Both options represent a problem for me. Quick help on this topic is appreciated...

RE: Sophos preventing Time Machine backup in Sierra

Do expect the solution tomorrow 31 Oct 2016

RE: Sophos preventing Time Machine backup in Sierra

Hi All,

Tried a new TM disk/backup, same result.

TM was working fine before Sophos :(

In my case I had MacOS Sierra already installed, then got Sophos and then TM broke.

EDIT: As of last night my second TM backup (normally kept off-site) was stuck at 1.18TB... but now I see this morning about 10 min ago the progress started up again to 1.21TB completed. So there is progress being made after removal of Sophos.

RE: Sophos preventing Time Machine backup in Sierra

I also have this problem on Macbook Pro and iMac 27" since upgrading to Sierra.
