Threat not listed

MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite 10.10.1

I recently got a new MacBook and transferred my old iMac onto it through a time machine backup.

I've run a Sophos scan many times and it always comes up with "No threats detected" (but with "Problems detected" which I'm told is normal).

However, I often get a notification from the software saying:

Threat detected: Virus/spyware Mal/Generic-L has been detected and reported in the quarantine manager.

But when I click to open the quarantine manager, there's never anything there. I've read that this is a Windows virus, but I'm concerned that it continues to pop up. Que faire ?

  • The resolution to that post says that it's because the threats are removed during the scan. But unlike that post, no threats are listed when I scan. I simply get an alert box at random times saying this threat has been detected. So unlike that post, the software clearly isn't removing the threat because this alert continues to come up.
