Sophos quit working and is now stuck on my computer

So about a week ago i nocticed that sophos was no longer working. I attempted to uninstall but found that the uninstaller had disappeared from the Applications folder completely. I tried to uninstall manually. That failed. Then I found the stand alone uninstaller. Even though it said it uninstalled successfully. It didn't. So I then tried to reinstall and uninstall but, the installations keep failing.

I've even tried installed other anti virus programs. All of them failed the installation process due to sophos still being on the computer. At this point I just want the software OFF of my computer.

Im currently running the lastest version of OSX.

  • Hey MrOverSt,

Sorry about the slow reply, I missed your post earlier in the week. Hopefully you've managed to figure this out already, but I just wanted to let you know, you can also try manually deleting all the files to remove SAV.

Basically, remove everything in the following list:

    /Library/Sophos Anti-Virus

    /Library/LaunchDaemos/com.sophos.*

    /Library/LaunchAgents/com.sophos.*

    /Library/Preferences/com.sophos.*

    /Library/Logs/Sophos Anti-Virus.log

    /Applications/Sophos Anti-Virus.app

    /Applications/Sophos Remove.app

    /var/db/receipts/com.sophos.*

You'll need administrative rights to remove most of those files. Then reboot, to ensure everything is cleared from memory too. Then run through the list again, to ensure you got everything.

Warning: Be cautious when deleting things in some of those directories. Not everything in there is related to our software - our files contain the name "Sophos".

Hopefully that gets you back up and running.
