"Clean Up" on threats not working?

Hi,

Per the screenshot, there are 54 threats on my Mac. I try cleaning them all up - it appears to work (just clicking on "Clean Up" till they disappear), but upon resweeping my system, they are all still there (including Mal/Phish-A, which doesn't look very nice...)

Please advise on how to find out more about these threats, but mostly, on how to get rid of them, which is what I thought Sophos could help with :)

Thanks very much in advance.

Zak

  • Hey Zak,

This KB article gives detailed explanations on how to remove threats that won't go away.

The TLDR of it is: what you need to do to remove the threat depends on where the threat is located. To see where the threat is located, open the quarentine manager, click the threat, and select "reveal in finder."

If you look at step 18 in the article I linked, it shows you how to remove files stored in various locations. If you're still confused, send me a screen shot like this one and I'll try to help.

  • Thank you, really appreciate the help! I'll get stuck into that article later today.

Quick follow-on: Need I be concerned that a Mal/Phish-A has been on my system for an unknown period of time? Would you advice changing all of my online banking passwords, for example?

It would be brilliant if there was a resource where one could read more about these threats.

    Thank you again,

    Zak

  • Hi Zak,

Actually, there is! Here's Sophos Labs' detailed analysis of Mal/Phish-A.

Based on the details there, personally I'd say it wouldn't hurt to change your passwords. Better safe than sorry, right?
