Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite, SAV Mac 9.2.2, and You

Hey everyone,

We released version 9.2.2 to all Home Edition endpoints earlier today, this version contains the latest updates and is compatible with Mac OS X 10.10. Although the previous version (9.1.5) was also compatible, this update brings the latest improvements and refinements.

    I've not seen the same (or any) drop-off in performance; but my internet connection isn't quite so impressive as yours.  Even so, I'm able to download at more than 80Mbps whether or not web protection is enabled.

    I did notice that the CPU usage of the SophosWebIntelligence process rises to more than 50% when running speedtest.net's web app.  I'm not noticed such high usage before; but given the large number of complete requests/responses generated by this test I think this is in hindsight understandable.  If this were to rise any further I would expect to see a degredation in download performance.

    I'm wondering whether your new Yosemite system is indexing itself, or doing something else CPU intensive?  Or, perhaps your machine isn't as powerful as the test system I used.  I would suggest you run another speedtest but this time check out your system CPU usage in Activity Monitor; in particular monitor the CPU usage of the SophosWebIntelligence and SophosScanD processes.

    I would speculate that the high CPU usage you'll see from speedtest.net represents a worst-case for CPU consumption by these two Sophos processes.  I am curious to know whether you can download a single large file at full speed irrespective of whether web protection is enabled.
