Sophos AutoUpdate continues to fetch virus definitions for my PPC Macintosh

Here in the Sophos forums, I had read that Sophos 8.0 would cease fetching virus definitions in 2014. However, as of February 24, 2015, Sophos continues to fetch virus definitions on a daily basis. Does anybody else have this experience?

The only computer I have is this Power Mac G4. It is a PowerPC computer, so the best system it can run is OS 10.5.8. This is why I cannot update to a newer version of Sophos.

Here is what 'About Sophos' tells me:

Sophos Version 8.0.25C

Threat detection engine: 3.50.1

Threat data: 4.98

Protects against 6484825 threats

Does anyone else have this same experience, of Sophos AutoUpdate continuing to fetch virus definitions for their PowerPC mac, here in 2015?

Thank you for reading     -John

  • Hi, I'd like to be sure before I download. On the initial screen (where the "Get Started" button is) it says it's for all versions of OS X from 10.6 onwards. But afterwards, on the download screen it specifies that it's only for 10.6-10.9.???
