Sophos AutoUpdate continues to fetch virus definitions for my PPC Macintosh

Here in the Sophos forums, I had read that Sophos 8.0 would cease fetching virus definitions in 2014. However, as of February 24, 2015, Sophos continues to fetch virus definitions on a daily basis. Does anybody else have this experience?

The only computer I have is this Power Mac G4. It is a PowerPC computer, so the best system it can run is OS 10.5.8. This is why I cannot update to a newer version of Sophos.

Here is what 'About Sophos' tells me:

Sophos Version 8.0.25C

Threat detection engine: 3.50.1

Threat data: 4.98

Protects against 6484825 threats

Does anyone else have this same experience, of Sophos AutoUpdate continuing to fetch virus definitions for their PowerPC mac, here in 2015?

Thank you for reading     -John

  • Thank you for taking the time to respond, especially regarding a version of Sophos which is long past its End Of Life date. And Sophos certainly doesn't owe me virus definition updates   -it never did.

My question is rather:  for those people still running a PowerPC macintosh, does Sophos AutoUpdate continue to fetch virus definitions?

Having Sophos has been a blessing, and it has never given me any problems. I have no reason to delete it from my computer, especially since it continues to fetch virus definitions every day.

I first made this inquiry within the Mac Rumors forums, and I got a lot of dismissive responses, but nobody actually addressed my question. So I am inquiring here.

Fellow PPC users: does Sophos AutoUpdate continue to fetch virus definitions, here in the year 2015?

Specs:  my PowerMac G4 is maxxed out running OS 10.5.8, and Sophos Version 8.0.25C, with Threat Detection Engine: 3.50.1.

Thank you for many good years    -John
