Sophos 9.01 Memory Usage out of Control

Free HDD space is 64.13GB. I also run the verify/repair disk permissions to ensure that there are no issues (none shown up).

Just wondering if you could provide an update on the progress of implementing the improvements you mentioned in your previous post.

I note that 9.1 is in in preview and due to be released soon. But I don't think any of the memory utilisation improvemens are coming until 9.2 and 9.3?

I've now upgraded to Mavericks 10.9.4 and noticed that InterCheck (161MB) and SophosScanD (142.7MB) are the 2nd and 3rd highest processes by memory consumption on my Mac. Only the kernel task is higher.

Version 9.2 is mostly done, and will go out into preview in early September. Exact date isn't yet set, but we'll be much closer when we release 9.1 to all existing users in August.

Not sure if that makes sense, but basically we have to upgrade the current users to the next major version before releasing a new preview. Our release process uses the preview option to get additional feedback from users before a full upgrade. Today's situation is that 9.1 is available for preview, and 9.0 is the generally avaiable release. In August we plan to retire 9.0 and upgrade everyone to 9.1. Once complete we can release the next preview. Our systems only allow one preview at a time.

No committment on delivery of 9.3 at this point, we've had to do some rethink about implementation, those changes are very complex given we are changing everything about the on-access scanner.

The problem with giving dates well in advance of things happening is that our predications about dates can be wrong. We put more emphasis on getting it right than meeting a particular date.

I am using the latest version 9.9.2 over my Macbook Pro and in my case It's going a lot lot higher. So I have 15 GB of RAM and sometimes, SophosEventManager eats up 15+ GB of RAM, which is very much strange behaviour. Due to this, my development work is badly impacted. Before installing Sophos I could run the Android Studio and Xcode project in parallel with 2-3 projects actively open, but after installing Sophos, I am not able to run Xcode alone. In my case Sophos consumes memory between 3 GB - 15 GB and until unless you force kill it or restart your system, it keeps increasing the memory consumption. It seems this piece of software have got some VERY MAJOR MEMORY LEAKS.

Make sure that any other process is not running along with Sophos, when the scan is running. Any process such as installation along with scan or autoupdate can cause this issue.

Same here. I'd be very happy to have a 679 MB memory usage like the opener...

MacOS client has a really embarassing memory managment. It usually happens during Xcode compilation and Simulator sessions. We already tried to exclude Derived data and simulators folders with no luck. Unfortunately my company policies force me to keep it installed so please please please do something

Unfortunately you can't.

I usually have to kill SophosScanD and SophosEventMonitor or restart the mac, but after a few compilations memory usage rises again.

The amount of written data is also worrying: in less than 8 hour it wrote 90+ GB... It's literally eating up my SSD.

The only solution I found is to try to convince my company to give me rights to uninstall it, but I don't think it's gonna happen...
