What is latest version of free Sophos Virus Removal Software to install

Question

I originally installed free Sophos Virus Removal Software 2.5.4 in Dec. 2014. Now I am getting a reading it has expired. I can still scan but no new updates. I have Windows 8.1. which I thought it supported. I was referred to download a new version, but am unclear if it is a 2015 version of 2.5.4 or a new release. It says it only supports X SP2, Vista or 7. Please advise if the new release/version I am supposed to install supports Windows 8 and 8.1 and what he version # is. Will the Windows Removal Program uninstall my current version or will I have to take additional steps? Thank you, Judy

 The latest version of the Sophos Virus Removal Tool (SVRT) is 2.7.0 and here are the system requirements: Windows XP SP2 and above, at least 256MB of RAM, and 80MB of disk space. You can find more information on this here . It is recommended to uninstall the older version prior to installing the latest version. However, you can try installing on top of the older version and see if it works and if it does not work, you can uninstall the older version and then install the lastest version.
