Do I Need To Have Sophos Scan On?

Yesterday I took my computer to Stapes to have the annoying Adware removed from my computer, 1200 and some. Anyway, when I go home the Sophos signed in the upper right popped up and said that the Sophos Scan WASN'T ON. What do I do and how do I do it please?
