Sophos XG Firewall Home Edition - Web Services for HP Instant Ink Program Blocked from Printer

I would really appreciate anyone's help with my issue. I have a PC that I installed the firewall on with 2 Network Interface cards (one LAN and one WAN). LAN is connected to my managed switch with has all connections to my devices over the network. Only one IP scheme and all devices are on one whole network. I'm on the latest XG Firewall Version 18. The issue I'm facing is that I have an HP Printer connect over WiFi to my AP that is connected to the switch. I reviewed the logs for the firewall and I see my printers source IP has reported some denied/invalid traffic. Before I started using this firewall I never had an issue with my HP Printer connecting to the Web Services for the HP Instant Ink Service. Now I'm facing this issue and it connects to WiFi, but my printer won't connect to the Web Services. No other issues with any of my other devices on my network, but my printer. How would I be able to configure a rule to allow all ports and services to my printers source IP? I was able to configure my DVR and Media Server to be accessed remotely, but it has been difficult for me to figure out to allow all to my printer. Please help as soon as possible. Thank you in advance.

  • Hello wifi2966,

Thank you for contacting the Sophos Community.

I would recommend you to start by creating a Firewall rule exclusively for your HP Printer without any Web Policy applied and add put it on the TOP

Additionally to this if the issue persists, please go to SSL/TLS inspection rules and create a rule for the HP set to not Decrypt this traffic

After this, you shouldn't have issues contacting the Ink Service, but let me know!
