XG Firewall setting to avoid wireless router DHCP?

Hello,

I just migrated from a consumer wireless router to XG Firewall in my home. Unfortunately, I have not been able to turn off the DHCP server on the wireless router. When I set my wireless router to access point mode, Sophos XG will assign each wireless device an IP but they don't have internet access. This is not what happens with my wired devices on the same LAN and IP range. They seem to have internet access without issue.

Only when I use router mode, do I get internet. I would like to avoid the double NAT and separate configuration if possible. One other oddity on the router is the DNS cannot be set as use device DNS or there is also no internet access so I set the DNS to Google.

Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions for this new user?

Much thanks.

  • Hello Peter,

Thank you for contacting the Sophos Community.

To turn off the DHCP on the XG please go to Configure >> Network >> DCHP, in there you will find the DHCPs that the XG is using.

As per why you don't get internet access when the XG provides an IP, probably you don't have a Wifi to WAN wireless rule.

As per your second question, most likely the XG also doesn't have public DNS set,

Please go to Configure >> Network >> DNS

Please make sure you have LAN to WAN configured in your XG as well.

    Regards,
