Not able to download/open antivirus/malware, or open sites

Hello,

I think I might have some sort of virus on my computer (I'm on Vista), as I can't open malware bytes or McAfee, not am I able to download anything at all (e.g. new malware tools). Similarly I can't open certain websites like I was searching for antivirus videos, the pattern seems to be sites that have to do with antivirus or malware guides, e.g. the Microsoft site, most help forums, the McAfee Website etc. I've now rebooted in safe mode with networking, but the same problem persists there. What can I do to fix this?

Any help will be appreciated.

Thank you.

  • I'm afraid this forum is for Sophos SafeGuard - a product for managed workstation encryption (not as in malware encryption viruses like Wannacry)

I would recommend though that you download an offline CD from another PC to clean up your system.

It sounds like you have a BHO (Browser hi-jack object) that is actively intercepting your browsing and this needs removing to give you clean and natural results again.

As you can't download this in the first place that I would suggest the other clean PC (another system you might have, neighbour's PC or perhaps IT support at work?) to download the tools you need.

There are many good free Live CD's you can use but in terms of a "polite" suggestion and not a promotion I would suggest using Sophos's tool for this.

Sorry I can't help further - you may have more success within the Sophos AV forums!
