Safeguard Uninstallation Causes Windows Boot Corruption

Good afternoon,

Sophos Safeguard Enterprise 7.0.2

Attempted to uninstall safeguard.  The disk decrypted all the config, client and pre-install (in that order) were uninstalled.  All of the components appear to be uninstalled.  However, went to reboot and the POA screen comes up.  I did not get the deinstallation of Sophos message that normally comes up.  I am able to log past this screen but then get stuck on a black screen that states "Sophos is loading OS now!".  I have tried using the recovery CD suggested, with some other documentation that talks about exporting keys but I don't see those options in the new admin console.  I have tried toggling all fo the hotkeys, and repairing the MBR with the Sophos recovery CD.

It seems that the handoff from Safeguard to Windows has gone corrupt.

Any suggestions to get this booting again or to get the data off the drive?

Thanks!

    Hey Tyler,

That's bit of a strange one if everything's uninstalled, are you sure it says "Sophos" and not "SafeGuard"? Could it be "SafeGuard is loading OS now! error=0x02"?

If it is that please try pressing Shift + F6

  • It does say "Safeguard loading OS now!", (my apologies) but it does not give an error.  It just hangs on that part.  I have tried Shift + F6 and the result is the same. The programs were removed from Programs and Features but we did not receive the normal "deinstallation of safeguard..." messages that we normally receive on a restart where it finishes removing it.  It doesn't appear to be fully uninstalled.  I have additionally tried to get past the POA by different users or the challenge/response to see if that would create different results, but receive the same.

Is there a way in the recovery CD to unlock the drive to try and get what data possible off the drive?  The only documentation that I see requires exporting a key from the admin console and using the recoverykeys tool, but that functionality doesn't seem to be there, or possibly in a different spot.  Is there anything that matches if the software was installed?
