Dragon Medical v12 SafeGuard Exclusion

Using Nuance Dragon Medical version 12 on an encrypted device causes latency issues while dictating. I've created an exclusion for the executable but is there any known issues using dictation software on an encrypted drive.

    Hi Quincy,

Many thanks for getting in touch.

Over the entire product lifetime of SafeGuard I can only see two other cases in relation to the Nuance Dragon software suite. Can you confirm the following for me and I'll see how we can help:

    - Your hardware (PC/Mac)?
    - Operating System version (OS X 10.11.3, Windows XP Home, Windows 7 Pro etc)
    - Your hardware specifications (ie: RAM, Hard Drive, Processor speed)
    - Your version of SafeGuard on the client machine (ie: SafeGuard Enterprise 7.00.2.35)
    - When did the issue start occurring (after an upgrade, from the time the machine was encrypted etc)
    - What modules are in use (Full Disk Encryption, File Encryption, etc)

Thanks Quincy, I look forward to hearing from you.

  • Hi Toby,

Here are the specs on our test machine:

    Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3210M CPU @ 2.50GHz (2 cores)

    Win7 x64

    4 GB RAM

    300GB HDD

All of these specs are sufficient for running the installed version of Dragon Medical. The issue occurred upon full encryption of the drive, and the modules that are in use are Full Disk Encryption (Volume Based).

    -Thanks

    Quincy

    Hi Quincy,

    Thanks for the clarification.

I can't see anything for Dragon Medical 12, is it Dragon NaturallySpeaking 12 or Dragon Medical Practice Edition 2 that you're using?

I did manage to track down a datasheet for Dragon Medical 10 and it mentioned the following:

"When the Language Model Optimizer feature is enabled, Dragon Medical automatically retains and encrypts a subset of audio and text files on the local machine using Microsoft Windows cryptography."

If you have this feature enabled it might be that your files are being encrypted twice, which would certainly go some way to explaining the latency issues you're facing.

Please let me know if you have this or a similar feature enabled.
