Safeguard Easy - Windows 7 - won't boot error 0xc0000098 -

My laptop's MBR seems to have been altered and I can't boot from the CD files I've downloaded from Sophos.  I believe the version is 5.6 but after logging into Sophos, the legacy files suggest it is 6.0.

According to all of the Sophos documentation, be_restore.exe is apparently able to help but I can't find this file anywhere, can it be downloaded or can somebody point me towards where I can find it?

We have another machine with the Policy Editor installed but there doesn't seem to be any help there except an msi file.

Any clues gratefully received.

Cheers,

T1gly

  • T1gly,  There are several articles matching the keywords of "MBR" and/or "NTLDR" here in this Board, and I feel certain one of these I viewed within the past week contains a link to "BE_Restore.exe".

I just tried to post three (3) of these links in a Reply to you here, but the Forum is indicating the "highlighted" errors need to be corrected and NOT highlighting anything.  Further examination found the "HTTP://" portion of the URLs is not being maintained as I Paste them in, and even if I Edit them.  The http://community.sophos.com part is chopped off the "Link URL" but remains in the "Link Text".  If I go in and Edit the missing information and click "Insert" everything should be fixed.  However, if I highlight the Link again and click the little chainlinks icon, it is worse!  The Link is removed entirely.  Its my guess the Lithium message board software (or backend database) is having an issue.  Sorry!  I tried.

  • Hi,

just a quick follow up on your post, although its quite some days ago... The error and how to resolve is documented in  our Knowledge Basse at

SafeGuard Enterprise Client fails to boot, Windows error: Recovery from "File: \Boot\BCD Status: 0xc000000f" or File: Boot\BCD status 0xc0000098

    Cheers,

  • Hi all,

Thanks for the replies, sorry it's been a while but unfortunately despite my best efforts, I'm no nearer resolution.  I've down loaded the files and the machine flatly refuses to boot from the CD (I know the drive works).

All I'm getting is Windows Boot Manager telling me the BCD doesn't contain a valid OS entry.

Are there any other options or is this thing 'bricked'?

    Cheers,

    Tigly
