Safeguard 6.10 - Balloon tooltips still popup after applying the Silent configuration

I set the policy in Machine Specific Settings for tray icon notifications set to 'Silent'.

I saved the settings and confirmed that the policy item I updated was a member of the policy group in production.

I applied the change yesterday and it appeared to work as expected.

This morning I get an email from my boss with a snippet of his desktop showing a Safeguard tooltip balloon pop-up saying 'Synchronization successful.  No new settings available...'

Note** my boss did receive the policy update yesterday and confirmed that tooltips had gone away.

So the questions are:  why did this balloon popup?  Is it because the client intiated the communciation?  and does the client always attempt to contact the Safeguard server as soon as it gets network connectivity?  Is this expected behaviour?

Any information on this would be much appreciated.

  • I now seee there is a way to configure the frequency with which the client contacts the server polling for updates.

I'm assuming that tooltips are only suppressed if the change came from the server but still show if the client contacts the server.

If the above statement is true then I guess the only way to truly supress these popups would be to disalbe notifcations for Safeguard at the OS level. - Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Notification Area Icons.

    Hopefully someone can confirm this.
