Configuration Protection in Safeguard 6.1?

HI @all,

we installed 6.1 in a new Win2012R2 Server.

All seams to be ok - but we can not find the "configuration protection client"???

It's no longer Part of the "SGNClient_x64" installer file and the file "SGNCPClient_x64" does not exists in the "Client installies" directory.

Searched the Dokumentation but didn't find how to install CPClient.

Help! :-)

  • Safend was bought out by Wave, this this was around the time that Sophos announced that it would be discontinuing Configuration Protection in Safeguard.  Port Protector from Safend/Wave is from what I can see CP in Safeguard only re-badged as is the Port Auditor tool.

We have 2500 CP licences which when we upgrade to Safeguard 6.1 we can no longer use, we may be able to manage 6.0 clients that are already deployed, but we also need to deploy 500+ Windows 8.1 devices for mobile workers.  Our strategy is to stick with Windows 7 for desktops, so how do we continue to INSTALL CP and use the licences we have on Windows 7 desktops/laptops and also deploy Windows 8.1 without CP.

The short of it is we cannot as, the ability to even install CP for any client be it Windows 95 or 8.1 has been omitted from the installer!

"As for the why, Sophos as any other company needs to review product strategy every now and then and re-focus on the areas, which we think we can add value to our customers and to our shareholders"

Your comment above simply makes me believe further that Sophos's strategy is more about saving money for shareholders than about delivering features for customers.  Not only does Safeguard only manage Bitlocker (no hard work gone into development here), Sophos have now removed an entire Module from Safeguard, probably because WAVE wanted more money per license than Safened previously did.

I don't know who at Sophos thought that it was acceptable to remove CP from Safeguard and replace it with thin air, I would love to have them for tea at my house because I would probably get away with serving them a nice Beef Sunday Roast with no Beef on their plate!

"Re-focussing is difficult to impossible if a company continues to carry all legacy products into the future. During this process we decided to discontinue CP."

And let’’’’s get the above quote absolutely clear, CP has not been re-focussed its simply been REMOVED!

Oh and its not a "legacy" product for Wave as Port Protector support Windows 8, its only legacy because Sophos want to pull it.
