Workstation locked and SafeGuard Enterprise server is no longer running

Okay, I have a workstation that has been locked due to trying an incorrect password too many times.  It requires a challenge/response in order to unlock it, but the server running the SafeGuard application has died and is unrecoverable.  Is there any hope for recovering this data?

Thanks,

Josh

  • Hi Josh,

to recover the data, either by C/R or a WinPE recovery Disk, you need to have access to the Management Center.

If only the "server" died, you can recover the Management Center if you have the following:

    - a backup of the SafeGuard DB (that contains the key reported by the client in question - if it was a managed client)

    - the p12 file of an MSO/SO

    - the correct password to import the above mentioned p12

    - the keyfile of the client (only required if it was running in standalone mode)

Without these 3 (4 if standalone) things it is impossible to recover the data.

A detailed description how the SafeGuard Management Center can be restored is available in KBA 108156 (page 55 of the pdf).

    Hope that helps!
