Reclaimed client licence in error

as part of a recent project to upgrade laptops across the company we have gone through the existing devices and reclaimed the Safeguard 5.60 licences from old XP laptops for reuse on new Windows 7 ones.

unfortunatly we reclaimed the licence from a laptop that is still in use, as an added complication the certificate for the account used to log into that laptop has expired.

now when trying to log in on the laptop we simply get the failed login reported message, and when atempting to perform a C/R we get the message invalid computer identification.

is there any way around this or will we just have to write off the laptop and re-image?

  • Hi SilentBob,

once the computer object has been removed manually from the SafeGuard Enterprise Management Center / SafeGuard Enterprise Database, a Challenge/Response process for this computer cannot be completed successfully anymore.

If you have a backup of the SafeGuard Database from a point in time where the machine object is still available, I'd recommend to restore the DB backup under a different name (e.g.: SafeGuard_BACKUP - do not revert the current production database!) and install a new SafeGuard Enterprise Management Center instance.

Now, use the new SafeGuard Enterprise Management Center instance to connect to the restored backup of the SafeGuard Database and perform a Challenge/Response operation.

Alternative: If the SafeGuard Management Center has been installed using the Multi-Tenancy mode, you can simple create a new connection from the inial wizard that opens up when starting the Management Center. (Please refer to the Admin manaual for more details on the Multi-Tenancy mode)

    Regards,

    ChrisD

  • unfortunatly we don't have a backup that we can use to recover the key, we'll have to look at reimaging the laptop.

thank you for the reply, we'll certainly have to look into our policy for backup of the database in the neart future
