Migrate SafeGuard Enterprise 5.6 from 2003 server to new 2008R2 server.

Hi,

Just looking for advice on the best way to migrate SGN 5.6 from 2003 to a new 2008R2 server. Once the migration is completed I also need to upgrade to 6.1. I'm assuming I'll also need to deploy new configuration packages to existing endpoints to direct them to the new server and to set SHA-2?

Thanks.

  • Hi,

set up the new Windows server (full patched). You need to install IIS 7 or 7.5, .NET Framework 4 and ASP.Net4. Then install the SafeGuard Enterprise Server 6.1 and the new Management Center from the install guide.

After that you have to migrate the SQL database to version 6.1. You need to update the SQL database step by step.

In the install package, under \Tools\Database scripts\migration scripts\, there you can find the SQL-updatescripts.

At first you need to migrate from 5.60 to 6.00 and then from 6.00 to 6.10 (at the SQL-console) --> Before you update the database, please make an backup (see also through the update guide chapter 4.1).

Then you can connect the database to the server. But be careful. You need every certificate (p12) and passwords from the old server to connect (database password, MSO-user password and company certificate password).

After that you can follow the Install Guide from chapter 6 (Testing communication).

If the communication is working fine you can build new configuration packages for the server and managed clients. At the clients you need to uninstall the client configuration and install the new one.

At the Management Center dont forget to sync your domain.

After that your SafeGuard Server should be ready.

Litte hint: At the new 6.1 version the Configuration Protection is not supported.
