SafeGuard 6.1 + Windows 8.1 x64

Hello,

i have problems to get SGE6.1 to work with my Win 8.1 Notebook (BIOS, no TPM), as with Win7 before.

I've got a PolicyEditor with my Configuration-Pakets; a Win7 x64 Notebook with POA and Fullencryption. Works great.

Now i've upgraded to SGE6.1 and have a new SSD with Win8.1 x64 (same NB).

1. Is there a way to use BitLocker PBA + Sophos with Password only? (Like POA, without TPM+PIN / USB)

I haven't TPM and don't want to use a USB flash drive every time.

2. I've disabled decryption with the PolicyEditor. Anyway i can "deactivate" BitLocker through the BitLocker-Management. But after deactivating, it encrypts the SSD again and it is still activated. Is that true?

Thanks for your help

  • Hi wiLLow,

    regarding your two questions:

    1. Is there a way to use BitLocker PBA + Sophos with Password only? (Like POA, without TPM+PIN / USB)

I haven't TPM and don't want to use a USB flash drive every time.

Answer: In SGE/SGN 6.10 it is not possible to use the BitLocker Password protector which would fulfill your requirement. However, this is planned for a future release.
For the time being, the only option would be using a USB device as alternative (on hardware without TPM).

    2. I've disabled decryption with the PolicyEditor. Anyway i can "deactivate" BitLocker through the BitLocker-Management. But after deactivating, it encrypts the SSD again and it is still activated. Is that true?

Answer: If you want to decrypt a BitLocker encrypted drive which is managed by SGN/SGE, you have to assign a "no encryption" policy first. Otherwise the encryption will always start again as you described.

    Hope that helps

    Cheers
