POA and wireless KB & mouse

We are using SafeGuard Enterprise 6.00.1 with a mixture of HP EliteBook laptops (8470w, 8560w, 8740w, 8760w, 8770w) and none of them will recognize a Logitech wireless keyboard or mouse at the POA login. We used the POACFG file from Sophos dated 10/25/2013. Both the wireless keyboard and mouse will work when entering the BIOS but not with the POA. When I press F5 at the POA login I can see that USB legacy support is Off and both USB 1.0 and 2.0 are enabled. How do I get the POA to recognize the wireless keyboard and mouse? I tried pressing Shift + F3 during startup to enable USB legacy support but that didn't work.

  • Hi DJB-Tech,

certain wireless HID-devices require special drivers which are not included in the hardened FreeBSD version of the Pre-Boot environment and therefore will not function.

  • So what you're saying is Logitech devices are not supported and it has nothing to do with the Legacy USB Support setting? That surprises me since they are a major player in that product market segment. In that case, where can I find a list of supported wireless keyboards and mice?

  • I don't say that Logitech devices are not supported. What I've said is that if a device requires special drivers (basically all Bluetooth devices), the device won't work at POA.

We do not have a list of wireless HID-devices that were tested against compatibility with the SafeGuard POA but devices that do not require a dedicated driver should work at POA without a problem.

  • I guess that's what I'm having a hard time understanding. The devices aen't Blutooth. They work fine at the BIOS level but not with the POA. They will also work in the operating system without having to install a dedicated driver. I realize that I'm going in circles but I would prefer to find a solution other than replacing all the hardware. Otherwise, the only other workable solution may be not using the POA.
