SafeGuard 6.10 - FileVault and importing institutional keys

We have many encrypted Macintosh computers that were encrypted with an institutional key for use in accessing a machine where the user has forgotten their password.  On these computers, when we install SafeGuard, a popup indicating that the key isn't in SafeGuard pops up.

The institutional key is stored in /Library/Keychains/FileVaultMaster.keychain

Is there a process for getting this key into SafeGuard?

  • We figured out the process to incorporate a macintosh that already has FileVault2 installed.  Turns out, you can have different recovery keys.  It's possible to generate a personal recovery key for the workstation, and then import that recovery key into SafeGuard.  The institutional key still works, as well as the personal key.  The personal key works as you would expect it to, and as soon as you use it, a new one is generated, and the new one shows up in SafeGuard.
