SafeGuard EOL - File Encryption

I have been told by Sophos that file encryption will not be a functional / seamlessly integrated option under the Sophos Central Encryption product. What other products should we review? We require file encryption.

  • Hi ,

Yes, Sophos Safeguard which is the on-premise version of our encryption product is nearing its end of support. However, we have moved this to our Sophos Central as was available under device encryption and has file encryption just like SGN. You may refer to this documentation for more details and let us know if this suits your requirements.

  • Hi Glenn,

I am not seeing any reference to file encryption in central device encryption. All that product is doing is encrypting the volume. SafeGuard is encrypting the files as well, and I am trying to find what product to use for this.

File Encryption in a file share is not part of Central Encryption.

What type of file encryption are you needing? Data at rest? Data in transit? On a file share that is accessed by various devices? On the hdd of the endpoint computers (this would be covered by Central Encryption).

  • I’m needing the same file level functionality provided by safeguard. if files are somehow removed from our network for whatever reason and they’re encrypted that provides us a huge amount of data security

I am talking to the product manager to see the current options.

I have confirmed that our current statement on this is:

We recommend that SafeGuard Enterprise full disk encryption users migrate to Central Device Encryption for the easiest way to manage Windows BitLocker and macOS FileVault full disk encryption. All SafeGuard Enterprise Encryption products reach end of life in 2023, and we plan no replacements for file encryption or proprietary full disk encryption. Companies like conpal gmbh provide file encryption solutions that may solve your needs.

  • Hi Richard,

I appreciate your help with this matter. We will renew our SG license and hope that file encryption will be implemented in the cloud product before SG EOL. There are two other large local businesses that use SG. I have alerted them to this change. They were not aware of this.

    Best,

    John
