How to allow network drive in Sophos?

Hi Community,

I installed recently Sophos on my Computer but now the Firewall is blocking the access to all my network drives...

How can I enable this in the configuration, without shutting down the firewall completly?

Thanks for help.

Sincerelly

Yann

  • Hello Yann,

which Sophos product line and version and what OS? AFAIK the Sophos Client Firewall (SCF) is only available for the licensed ESC. If you're talking about a built-in firewall - Sophos doesn't touch it.

  • Hi Christian,

I don't really know wich pruduct line and version I'm using, that's why I attach an image of my product informations.

My currently OS is windows 10.

    Thanks for helping.

  • Hello Yann,

thanks (ein Bild sagt mehr als tausend Worte). It's the enterprise product, SCF is installed. I see you are not SophosAdministrator - do you have administrative rights on the machine (well, you needed them to install Sophos)? Anyway, ESC is usually centrally managed, while SCF is in the Allow by default (Standardmäßig zulassen) mode NetBIOS has its own settings.

So - you'd have to find out (unless you already know) whether Sophos (and the SCF) is centrally managed. If it is your site's administrator should be able to help. Otherwise you'd have to log on with an account who is member of the SophosAdministrator group and configure the Firewall to allow NetBIOS to the desired shares.

  • Hi Chris,

so I did'nt do as you told me, but I found a way to solve my problem. I reconize the connection as a LAN connection and allow there the NetBios.

    Thx for helping.

  • Hello Yann,

as a LAN connection and allow there the NetBios
correct, that's the place. You can only do this
though if you have sufficient rights and in case your installation is centrally managed it might get overridden by the central policy - but normally a "stand-alone user" (i.e. someone obtaining Sophos directly from Sophos) either doesn't use SCF or has stumbled over the importance of LAN during install and initial setup. That's why I've put this way [;)]
